リスのリッキー、ウサギのウーちゃん、クマのクーちゃんは、未来の森について語り合います。
リッキーは語ります。「未来の森はね、木がもっともっと高くなると思うんだ。枝と枝の間も広くなって、一番おいしい果実は空に近いところに実るんだよ。手足の皮膜が空色のマントみたいに広がって、尻尾は長いリボンみたいに進化するんだ。風をつかんで自由自在に飛び回って、移動そのものが遊びになるんだよ」
ウーちゃんは言います。「未来の森は、もっと“音の森”になると思うの。木の種類が増えて、風が吹くと葉っぱが楽器みたいに鳴るのよ。耳が花びらみたいに大きく薄くなって、左右別々に動かせるようになるの。“ロング・ディスタンス・チャット”で、離れた友達とヒソヒソ話もできちゃうのよ」
クーちゃんは話します。「未来の森はね、地面がもっと苔で覆われて、ふかふかの巨大ベッドみたいになると思うんだ。毛並みは羽毛布団みたいに柔らかくて、丸くて弾力のある“マシュマロ体型”になるんだ。疲れた動物たちをお腹で包んで癒やす“歩く休憩所”になるんだぁ」
今日2月12日はダーウィンの日。未来の森も、きっと笑いと優しさで満ちているのでした。
When the Forest Changes, So Do We
Ricky the squirrel, Woo the rabbit, and Koo the bear are talking about the future forest.
Ricky says, “I think the future forest will have much taller trees. The space between the branches will be wider, and the tastiest fruit will grow close to the sky. My children will have sky-colored membranes like a cape, and their tails will grow long like ribbons. They will catch the wind and fly anywhere they want. Moving will become a kind of fun play!”
Woo says, “I think the future forest will become a forest of sound. There will be more kinds of trees, and their leaves will sound like musical instruments when the wind blows. My children will have big, thin, flower-like ears that can move separately. With long-distance chat, they can whisper to friends far away!”
Koo says, “I think the future forest will have more moss on the ground, and it will feel like one big, soft bed. My children will have soft fur like a feather blanket and round, bouncy marshmallow bodies. They will hug tired animals with their warm bellies and become a walking rest stop.”
Today is February 12th, Darwin Day. The future forest will surely be full of laughter and kindness.
